PRESS RELEASE
RENEWAL OF EXPIRING DRIVING LICENCES-PEOPLE ABROAD
The Department of Road Transport and Safety urges the public to remind their friends and families residing or studying outside Botswana to be aware and check the expiry date of their driving licenses, to avoid penalties. This includes those who are in Botswana but for some reasons are not able to come and renew their licenses e.g. hospitalized, imprisonment e.t.c.
Those whose driving licenses have expired, or are about to expire, are advised to liaise with friends or relatives in the country to contact the Department of Roads Transport and Safety on their behalf to renew their driving licenses. The representative will be allowed to process the renewal of an expiring driving license of a person abroad provided the following are availed:
· A copy of the ID (Omang or Passport) of the license holder (may be faxed)
· A certified copy of the drivers license (may be faxed)
· A letter or faxed copy of the letter authorizing the representative
· A certified copy of ID of the representative
· The driving license fee (P70.00) (receipt issued)
When the license holder is back in Botswana and shows up for the driving license to be issued he or she will be required to produce:
· The receipt
· His or her identification (Omang or passport)
· Undergo eye screening
· Sign DL1 application form
Thank you
