PRESIDENT MOGAE COMING TO WASHINGTON, DC

7, November 2003

His Excellency, Mr. Festus Gontebanye Mogae, President of the Republic of Botswana will be in Washington, DC (Nov. 11-13) to participate in a conference entitled "Botswana's "war strategy" against HIV/AIDS: Lessons For Africa and President Bush's Emergency Plan For Aids Relief" to be held on November 12.

The Conference will be hosted by The Center For Strategic and International Studies HIV/AIDS Task Force. He will give a keynote address at the conference.

On 13 November at 11 a.m. President Mogae will feature in the Voice of America's Newsmaker Press Conference to talk about his visit and Botswana's development efforts in general to invited members of the press. The VOA Press Conference will be broadcast live.

He will conclude his main schedule with a 1:30 p.m. address of a symposium focusing on the theme "Conservation is Good Business" hosted by the African Wildlife Foundation and the Corporate Council on Africa. The symposium is expected to bring together leaders in conservation, business, development and government for a detailed deliberation on business practices that support sustainable growth.

President Mogae will be accompanied in the visit by The First Lady, Mrs. Barbara Mogae, Assistant Minister of Local Government, Hon. Mrs. Gladys Kokorwe, senior government officials, Botswana's health experts and representatives of the Women's NGO Coalition and Botswana Network of People Living With HIV/Aids.

The President returns to Botswana on 13 November, 2003.
